Champagne Family Dentistry Sparks

Dr. Andrew “Drew” Champagne obtained his undergraduate degree from Oregon State University in 2002, and his doctorate of dental medicine degree from the University of Louisville School of Dentistry in 2007.

He is a member of the American Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry, and past president of the Nevada Chapter of the Academy of General Dentistry. Dr. Drew has volunteered his time to benefit “Give Kids A Smile” events throughout the years, offering free dental services to children in the community, and to the Northern Nevada Dental Health Program, the Adopt a Vet program, and Moms on the Run.

“I wanted to be a dentist since I was a child,” said Dr. Drew. “Seeing my dad enjoy what he did so much truly inspired me, and I thought it would be fun to work with my dad.”

Dr. Drew loves music. He plays guitar, the drums, and he is teaching himself to play the piano. He also enjoys spending time in the Sierras during ski season, spending time with his kids, and watching the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team play. “I rarely miss a game on TV!” Fun fact: He is a fourth generation Northern Nevadan.

Anahi Bagan, RDH

Anahi has an associate’s of science degree in dental hygiene from Truckee Meadows Community College. She attended the University of Nevada, Reno for her undergraduate degree in biology. She graduated from dental hygiene school in 2010, and was a clinical instructor in the dental hygiene program at Truckee Meadows Community College from 2013-2016.

As a student, she enjoyed science and health and knew she wanted a career in healthcare. She also worked as a dental hygiene assistant at the dental office of a friend’s family for a year in Louisville, Kentucky, and she loved the environment.
During her free time, she enjoys reading, pilates, taking her beagles for walks, and spending time with her family. Fun fact: Anahi lived in Australia for five years and in Africa for one year.


Danielle Bohm, RDH

Dannielle Bohm attended Carrington College in Portland, Ore., and received an associates degree in dental hygiene. Upon graduating in 2012, she moved back to Reno. She was motivated to pursue a career in dental hygiene after observing people she knew in the field and finding what they did was interesting. Outside of work, she likes to bowl, play softball and volleyball, read, and solve puzzles. She has participated in several “Give Kids a Smile events,” providing free dental services to local children. Fun fact: She has a basset hound named Floyd and she likes to garden.


Shiena Dalmacio, RDH

Shiena has been in the dental field for nearly a decade. She assisted in oral surgery for four years before moving to Las Vegas in 2012, where she earned her degree in dental hygiene. She has volunteered for multiple “Give Kids a Smile” events over the years, providing free dental services to children in our community.

Shiena’s motivation for working in the dental field is that she loves helping people in our community and building relationships with her patients.

Her hobbies include working out and staying active. She likes to hike, travel, and spend time with family and friends. Fun fact: “I have the biggest sweet tooth!”


Maira Velasco, RDH

Maira received her dental hygiene degree from Truckee Meadows Community College in 2009 and immediately starting working in a private dental practice. She then went on to obtain her bachelor’s degree from College of Southern Nevada in dental hygiene.

Maira has been a member of the American Dental Hygienist Association for over a decade. For the past eight years, she has served on both the component and state boards in many capacities. She is currently the State Treasurer for the Nevada Dental Hygiene Association.

Her volunteer work includes being a member of Los Médicos Voladores (The Flying Doctors) and traveling to Mexico to provide free dental services to underprivileged communities. She has also participated in yearly “Give a Kids Smile” events, offering free dental services to children in our community.

In her free time, Maira loves to travel and explore. Since she was raised on a farm, she loves all animals. She especially likes horseback riding and she has recently taken up golfing. Fun fact: Maira enjoys skydiving!

Lynette Alexander

Lynette began her career in dentistry right out of high school in 1987 at a local dentistry in Reno, where she received on-the-job training. In 1989, her sister informed her that Dr. Larry Champagne was looking for a dental assistant and she applied. “He gave this young 20-year-old a chance to prove herself!” After a few months on the job, Dr. Champagne encouraged Lynette to take a certification course at Truckee Meadows Community College, and she became certified in dental assisting. “It will be 29 years this year that I have worked for the Champagnes!”

Lynette enjoys camping, hiking, investigating the paranormal, and most of all hanging out with her grandson. Fun fact: She loves researching and making herbal and essential lotions and oils.

Christina Jones

Christina Jones attended West Coast Vocational School in Victorville Calif., and received a dental assisting certificate. She then attended Chaffey College in Rancho Cucamonga Calif., and received a Dental x-ray license in 2000. She interned at Aspen Dental in Apple Valley, Calif., and was later hired to work there. She worked at Aspen Dental for 5 years until she got married, had children and moved to Reno in 2017. She joined Champagne Dental Partners in November 2017. “Working for this company has been a blessing.”

Christina has been in the dental field for over 18 years. She decided to work in the dental field when she and her cousin would visit her aunt during the summertime and she would take them to work with her. All three are now working in the dental field. “I love to work with the community. The feeling is great when patients walk in the door for the first time, and you know they might be scared, but by the time they are done with their treatment they have a smile on there face. Knowing that I can help them is a great feeling.”

Her hobbies include camping, fishing, bowling and doing outdoor activities with her family. Fun fact: “I love to go fishing but I scream every time I catch a fish!”

Ashly Macias, RDH

Ashly started her career in dentistry by working for two years as an oral surgeon’s assistant. She then gained entrance into the College of Southern Nevada’s dental hygiene program, where she attended from 2010-2012. She continued her education through College of Southern Nevada and graduated with a bachelor’s of science in dental hygiene in 2014. She has been working at Champagne Family dentistry since the first day she received her license in July 2012.

Ashly decided to work in the field of dentistry because her aunt and grandma worked in the dental field and enjoyed it. She has found dentistry to be the perfect career path for herself and family. “I’ve always loved teeth!”

Her hobbies include camping, watching sports, and spending time with her family and dog. Fun fact: “I’m a dog lover!”


Amy Stagner, RDH

Amy Stagner has been in the dental field for more than 15 years. She started as a pediatric dental assistant and worked her way up to clinical supervisor before going to hygiene school. She obtained a bachelor’s degree in biology from UNR in 2008, graduated from Truckee Meadows Community College’s dental hygiene program in May 2017, and has an associates degree in science and hygiene from TMCC.

“I have always enjoyed working in the dental field. I started at a pediatric office, so it was rewarding to make an impact on kids and show them that their dental health was important and could be a positive thing. Now working with the general population has made me realize that adults are seeking that same experience. I truly enjoy being able to education patients and make their dental experience positive.”

Amy’s hobbies and side job include making cakes and decorated sugar cookies. “This is a self-taught hobby that keeps me busy. I have two daughters who are active in swim and gymnastics so that is where all of my free time goes.”


Julie Thomsen, RDH

Julie has an associates degree of applied science for dental assisting and dental hygiene. She attended the Truckee Meadows Community College dental assistant program from 2005-2006, and studied dental hygiene at Apollo College in Boise, Idaho, from 2007-2009.

Julie has been working in the dental field since she was 16 years old, when she began on-the-job-training as a dental assistant. She has more than 20 years of experience in the dentistry field.

Outside of work, she likes to go hunting with her husband, spend quality time with her daughter, exercise, go camping, and learn to speak Euskara (Basque language). Fun fact: When she was 10 years old, she participated in a “Take Your Child to Work” day and that was the day she discovered her love for dentistry. “I followed my dream and now I am working in my dream job!”

Karina Muro

Karina has been a certified dental assistant for two years and received her certification from Truckee Meadows Community College. She has been working as a dental assistant for Dr. Guillen since completing the certification. “Dentistry has always been fascinating to me and offers the opportunity to continuously learn and serve others.”

Karina enjoys singing at her church and is a very proud aunt of her niece Aliyah and nephew Ezra.


Rachel Sylvester

Rachel graduated from the dental assisting program at Truckee Meadows Community College in 2010 and interned at many dental offices. She chose to work in dentistry because she enjoys meeting new people, giving people their self-confidence back through their smile, and helping patients overcome their fear of being at the dentist.

She volunteers for Give Kids a Smile, a program that provides no-cost dental services to children in need and has received specialized training in making in-house crowns.

Rachel was born and raised in South Lake Tahoe and she enjoys snowboarding, traveling, and exploring new places. Fun fact: “I’m a huge Selena Quintanilla fan!”

Tami Knutzon

Tami Knutzon has been in the dental field for more than 20 years. She decided to work in the industry after having a bad dental experience as a child. “I never wanted anyone else to ever feel that way.”

Some of her hobbies include spending time with family and reading. Fun fact: “My very first job was working at Disneyland and it truly was the ‘Happiest Place on Earth!’ “

Kim Hart, RDH

Kim has been in the dental field for more than 11 years. She received an associate’s degree of applied science in dental assisting from Truckee Meadows Community College in 2007. She worked as a dental assistant for five years before returning to college to complete an associates of science in Dental Hygiene at Carrington College in Mesa, Ariz. in 2014. Kim has been working as a dental hygienist ever since obtaining her degree.

Since the age of 10, Kim realized that she would love to work in the dental field. “I always enjoyed going to see my dentist and having my teeth cleaned.”

Most of her favorite hobbies are done outdoors. She loves to camp, hike, swim and garden. “Last year my husband built a wonderful garden and we love to spend time out in the backyard tending to it.” Fun fact: Kim loves baking and decorating cakes. “I started making cakes when our first child turned one and I wanted her to have fun cakes! I have been hooked ever since, and enjoy making cakes for friends.”


Emily Mendonca, RDH

Emily attended Carrington College in Boise, Idaho, where she received her associates degree. She is a member of the Northern Nevada Dental Hygienist Association.

She decided to work in dentistry because she spent a lot of time in the dental office as a child and the staff was always able to make her feel comfortable. Since then, she knew dentistry was what she wanted to pursue. “I love being able to help people improve their oral health and accomplish their goals, and make them feel comfortable in the dental chair.”

Emily’s hobbies include camping with family at Eagle Lake during the summer, boating and hiking. She loves going to concerts and traveling as often as she can. Fun fact: She’s the tallest member of her family!


Kristin Pristavec, RDH

Kristin has an Associates of Dental Hygiene and a Bachelor’s of Science in Communications. She has worked as a clinical Registered Dental Hygienist for ten years. She is a member of the American Dental Hygienists Association and the Academy of Laser Dentistry, and has served on the Northern Nevada Dental Hygienists Association Board of Trustees since 2014. She has also volunteered to provide free dental services to patients in Mexico.

She decided to work in dentistry because she likes caring for people and helping them to have happy, healthy, confident smiles.

Her hobbies include anything involving the outdoors, scuba diving, hiking, and being with her family, friends and dogs.

Corey Habina

Corey graduated from the National School of Dental Assisting in Reno, and specialized in endodontics. She wanted to pursue a career in dentistry because she has always liked going to the dentist and felt like she could provide great patient care in this field.

In her spare time, she likes to cook, spend time with her dogs, go the the gym, and watch Netflix. Fun fact: “I’m a very good trivia guesser!”

Karen Chavez

Karen has been a part of the dentistry field for a little over a year now and she is extremely excited to pursue continuous on-the-job training as well as training outside of the office. Growing up, her sister attended dental school, which is what influenced her to join the field. “I enjoy making sure patients leave our office with a healthy smile on their face.”


Dr. Peter Ricciardi, DDS

Dr. Peter Ricciardi was born and raised in Reno, Nev. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Nevada, Reno, from 1997-2001, where he studied biology and chemistry. He then obtained his doctor of dental surgery from Creighton University School of Dentistry in 2005. Following dental school, Dr. Ricciardi completed a general practice residency through the University of Nevada School of Medicine in 2006, focusing on IV conscious sedation, treatment of medically compromised patients, implant surgery, and other oral surgical procedures.

In 2014, he completed extensive surgical and prosthetic implant training in the Maxi course through the American Academy of Implant Dentistry. In 2016, Dr. Ricciardi received his associate fellowship in the AAID after passing extensive written and oral examinations. He was asked to join the Advanced Dental Implant Studies group in 2017 in Atlanta Georgia and was mentored by Dr. Edward Mills.

Dr. Ricciardi is a member of the American Dental Association, Nevada and Northern Nevada Dental Association, Advanced Dental Implant Studies group, and the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology. He is a fellow in the Academy of General Dentistry, an associate fellow of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry, and a fellow of the Pierre Fauchard Academy. He has taken over 2,000 hours of implant-related continuing education courses.

He has volunteered with the Adopt a Vet program, Give Kids a Smile campaign, and with the Northern Nevada Dental Health program.

“Dentistry was always interesting to me because it combined artistry, medicine, and helping people obtain a better quality of life.”

In his spare time, Dr. Ricciardi likes to spend time with his wife and two kids, golf, snowboard, hunt, and fish. Fun fact: If pursuing academics or becoming a professional was not in the cards for him, acting or doing comedy would have been his dream career choice.

Elizabeth Riolo

Elizabeth completed the Northern Nevada Dental Assisting School associates program at Truckee Meadows Community College and has been a dental assistant for over five years, specializing in oral surgery and periodontics.

“I joined the dental field to restore oral health and transform the quality of life for our patients with the technology and creativity our office provides.”

In her spare time, Elizabeth enjoys beach days, snowboarding, hiking and exploring new areas. She has also volunteered as a cheerleading and gymnastics coach. Fun fact: She loves animals, especially cats!

Vanessa Young

Vanessa was introduced to the field of dentistry as a volunteer for a nonprofit dental office in Sparks that offers free dental care to low income adults.

Champagne Family Dentistry is where she began her first job in the dental field. Her previous experience was in the medical field as a certified administrative assistant.

Vanessa wanted to get involved in the dental field because she enjoys meeting new patients and discussing their needs and goals for their dental health. “I find it very rewarding when a patient is comfortable with their continuing care and understands how they can utilize their insurance benefits to assist with their care. I enjoy seeing them smile and excited to see us.”

Fun fact: She loves photography, painting, and enjoys writing poetry.

Hunter Greeley

Hunter has enjoyed her hands-on dental care experience at Champagne Family Dentistry. Prior to starting at the dentistry, she spent a year of job shadowing in her home town of Fallon. “This experience showed me the clinical side of the dental field and gave me a view of patient care, which I had never seen before. The hygiene department taught me a lot, and my interest in this industry started there. Soon, I was able to work toward my goal of being a hygienist. I started working on-on-one with the hygienists as a hygiene assistant and every day is a new learning opportunity for me.”

Hunter chose dentistry as a career because she loves the personal connection and care that hygienists provide. “I love the clinical side of cleaning teeth and making a patient’s dental experience comfortable.”

Some of her hobbies include camping, going to Lake Tahoe with family and friends, and snowboarding. Fun fact: “I’m a super outgoing person and love to talk to everyone! I am anything but shy.”

Melanie Lubbe

Melanie graduated from University of Nevada, Reno, with a bachelor’s of science in community health science and went on to Truckee Meadows Community College where she completed the dental assisting program, and received an associates in applied science and a certificate of achievement in dental assisting.

Over the years, she has volunteered for multiple Give Kids a Smile events over the years, providing free dental services to children in the community. She interned at a general dental practice and an oral surgery office and then began her career in 2013 at Champagne Family Dentistry.

“I knew I wanted to work in the dental field ever since I can remember. I was always that kid who loved going to the dentist growing up!”

Melanie loves spending time outdoors with her dog Sadie, going to Lake Tahoe, golfing, traveling, and being with her family as much as she can. Fun fact: “I am a Reno Native and would love to get my pilot license!”


Dr. Jason Champagne, DDS

CEO

Dr. Jason Champagne obtained his doctor of dental surgery degree from the University of the Pacific, Arthur A. Dugoni, School of Dentistry in 2001. He graduated from Oregon State University in 1998.

He is a member of the American Dental Association, Nevada Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry, the Spear Study Club, and the Northern Nevada Dental Society, of which he formerly served as president, vice-president and secretary/treasurer. He is a board of directors member of the Boys and Girls Club of the Truckee Meadows and is also a fellow in the American College of Dentists and the Pierre Fauchard Academy. Dr. Jason is also a current board member on the Nevada State Board of Dental Examiners, serving his third term.

Dr. Jason actively provides volunteer dental services through the Northern Nevada Dental Health Program. Also, for the past few years, Champagne Family Dentistry has hosted the annual Give Kids A Smile Event for Northern Nevada. This amazing day provides free dental services to kids of the Boys and Girls Club and our community.

His hobbies include skiing, golfing, playing guitar, and spending time with family. Fun fact: Dr. Jason loves Karaoke and he considers himself a pretty good Neil Diamond impersonator!
