Champagne Family Dentistry’s first Story Time, partnering with Barnes & Noble, was this past Saturday, April 19th! Our enthusiastic Pediatric Staff members showed up to read dental education books to children of all ages from the Northern Nevada Community. Stead Elementary School was our star school, with one of our story time attendees reading a book to the audience all by himself!
In an effort to raise awareness about Pediatric Dental Health, our staff has been volunteering their time to educate local children and their parents on dental hygiene and the importance of going to the dentist at an early age. Teaching kids about their oral health doesn’t have to be scary and using fun activities and events to incorporate dental education into their lives at an early age is something that is very important to us!
What books did we read that we highly recommend?
Brush your teeth, Max and Millie by Felicity Brooks & Desideria Guicciardini
This is a great book for infants! It’s about a brother and sister’s nightly routine and the importance of clean teeth before bed! It also has short sentences and great photos for those kiddos who have a tough time sitting still!
Going to the Dentist by Anne Civardi
This is a great book for toddlers! It introduces kids to everything they might be curious about in terms of their first dental visit and helps to introduce kids to healthy eating and healthy brushing habits!
Show Me Your Smile! A Visit to the Dentist by Christine Ricci
This is also a great book for toddlers and features our favorite Nick Jr. star, Dora the Explorer. The plot walks kids through their entire dental visit process and instruments/equipment they might see when going to the dentist. It is a bit word heavy, so we recommend this for older toddlers!
If you would like to attend our next Story Time, follow us on Facebook to stay up to date on all that we are doing in the community! You can also check the national Barnes & Noble website under their ‘Stores and Events’ tab for all upcoming events and activities for the kids!
Stay tuned for an upcoming blog post on some of our other favorite children’s books!
