WE RECENTLY ASKED DR. ZEFF a few questions about her dentistry career. Here are her answers. We thought you’d find it interesting!

How old were you, and what made you decide you wanted to become a dentist?

“Much older than a lot of dentists…I was in college sitting down with my counselor and we talked about what a great career dentistry could be for women. At that point, I started interning at dental offices around my school before and after class. As soon as I stepped into a pediatric dental office, I knew this is what I would eventually end up!”

Where did you attend school and how long have you been practicing?

“I received my Bachelor of Science from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, where I double majored in Biology and Biochemistry. I received my DDS from the University of the Pacific in 2001 and my MS and Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry from the University of California San Francisco in 2006. I practiced general dentistry for 2 years prior to my residency and have been practicing pediatric dentistry since my completion in 2006.”

What advice would you give to a young person considering a career in dentistry?

“Make sure you really enjoy talking to people and are truly a good listener. Consider interning at local dental offices like Champagne Family Dentistry and join the college predental group. And of course, work as hard as you can in college to get the best grades.”

What is the one thing you find most satisfying about being a dentist?

“There are many, but if I have to pick one. Being able to create GREAT dental experiences when kids actually have a cavity. As silly as it sounds, having a child give me a thumbs up or clapping in excitement as we are “washing away” sugar bugs lets me know I am making a difference.”

We hope you’ve enjoyed getting to know Dr. Zeff better! And, as always, THANKS for being our valued patients and friends!
