Oral healthcare can be a fun and interesting field with many career paths to choose from. The flexibility, benefits, people interaction and technical skills involved with being a dental assistant draw many into the field. If you want to get into dental work and think that becoming a dental assistant is for you, we have a few tips to help you get going.
Where to get started? It’s time to hit the books and enroll in one of the many local dental assistant programs in the area. Truckee Meadows Community College (TMCC), the Dental Assistant School of Northern Nevada (DASNN), and the Milan Institute of Cosmetology are great places to look into.
TMCC’s 10-month program starts every Fall. The fully equipped dental clinic makes for a thorough hands-on experience. After completion of the program, students are able to take the Dental Assisting National Board exam and become a Certified Dental Assistant, something we would recommend. If this program is perfect for you, make sure to apply by the June 1, 2016 deadline!
The accelerated 10-week course through the DASNN is perfect for the student looking to quickly dip their feet in the dentist pool. Local offices love to contact the school in search of qualified candidates, a great opportunity to get a job quickly!
Not just for hair and nails, the Reno, Milan Institute of Cosmetology is always looking to help dental students grow. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, dental assisting is considered to be one of the largest growing in-demand jobs. Call the admissions office at 888-207-9460 to find out more.
An old Chinese proverb says, “The best time to plant a tree was yesterday, the second best time is today.” So what are you waiting for? Become a dental assistant!
