So, we asked Annie a few questions to help you get to know her a little better. Those questions are found below—along with her answers. We hope you enjoy them!
Where are you originally from?
“My name is Annmarie Maloy Chavez, but I usually go by Annie. I was born and raised in Reno, Nevada. I graduated from Bishop Manogue High School and continued my education at the University of Nevada, Reno I was then accepted into the dental hygiene program at Armstrong Atlantic State University in Savannah, Georgia.”
“While in Savannah, I met my husband of 6 years, Nick. Nick was stationed in Savannah while serving in the US Army. We have two amazing young children; Dominic who will be 3 in September and Ava that is 6 months.”
What made you decide that you wanted to become a dental hygienist?
“My interests have always lied in the medical profession, but my decision to become part of the dental community peaked when a close family friend explained the profession and the unique one on one interactions with patients. I then realized it was a perfect career for me! Now after 6 years years as a hygienist, I come to work everyday excited and looking forward to working with wonderful staff members and such intriguing patients. Just knowing that I am helping people get over their fear of the dentist, as well as improving their oral hygiene is so rewarding.”
Do you have an unusual or interesting hobby?
“From this supportive and professional community, I plan to give back and eventually work with a non-profit organization. A new hobby of mine is running. I just recently completed the Reno-Tahoe Odyssey with a group of 11 other teams members for a total of 178 miles. I plan to continue running and achieving some personal goals.”
